September, According to the Stars
A look at the astrological shifts shaping September 2026 — and the questions they might invite us to sit with.

There’s something about September that already feels like a shift. Here in Australia, winter begins to loosen its grip, the days stretch a little longer and spring starts appearing around us. Astrologically, there’s movement too.
We begin the month in Virgo season, traditionally associated with discernment, routines and the details of everyday life, before moving into Libra and turning our attention towards relationships, connection and balance. Along the way, a New Moon in Virgo offers an opportunity to reset, Uranus begins its retrograde in Gemini, and the month closes beneath a Full Moon in Aries.
At Sondera, we’re less interested in astrology as a way of predicting exactly what will happen and more curious about what it can help us notice. So rather than reading September as a set of instructions from the stars, consider this an invitation to reflect on the themes moving across the month and see what, if anything, resonates.
September begins with an invitation to tend
Virgo season carries us through much of September. In astrology, Virgo is associated with the everyday: our habits, routines, work, wellbeing, organisation and the seemingly insignificant details that collectively shape how our lives feel.
It makes the beginning of September less about dramatic reinvention and more about paying attention. What has been working lately? What hasn’t? Where has life become unnecessarily complicated? What might feel different if you changed one small thing rather than trying to change everything?
There’s something reassuring in that idea. Wellbeing doesn’t always arrive through a profound breakthrough or an entirely new version of ourselves. Sometimes it looks like going to bed a little earlier, making breakfast instead of rushing through the morning, taking the walk, clearing the desk or finally saying no to something you’ve been tolerating. Virgo season brings us back to what’s right in front of us.
10 September - Uranus turns retrograde in Gemini
One of September’s more interesting astrological shifts comes as Uranus stations retrograde in Gemini. In modern astrology, Uranus is associated with disruption, innovation, freedom and change, while Gemini is connected with communication, information, ideas and the ways we make sense of the world.
It’s a combination that feels particularly relevant to modern life. We’re living through a period of extraordinary technological change. Information reaches us faster than ever, AI is changing how we work and create, and we’re almost constantly connected to other people’s thoughts, opinions and lives.
Progress can make life easier, but it’s worth occasionally asking what we might be giving up in exchange for convenience. Our attention? Our creativity? Our ability to be bored? Our capacity to form an opinion before discovering everybody else’s?
Uranus retrograde doesn’t have to mean rejecting technology or resisting progress. Through an astrological lens, it simply offers an interesting moment to reconsider our relationship with change and question some of the things we’ve come to accept as normal.
Something to sit with: What have you accepted as normal simply because everyone else has?
11 September - New Moon in Virgo
The following day brings a New Moon in Virgo. New Moons are traditionally associated in astrology with beginnings, intentions and planting the seeds for what comes next. Paired with Virgo, however, this one doesn’t necessarily call for a grand reinvention.
Instead, it brings our attention back to our actual days: how we begin our mornings, where our energy disappears, the routines that support us and the ones that no longer seem to. Rather than asking what your entire life should look like, this New Moon offers a much smaller and perhaps more useful question: what would make the life you’re already living feel a little better?
Maybe it’s returning to something you know makes you feel good. Maybe it’s creating a little more space in your week. Maybe it’s finally changing the thing that causes unnecessary friction every single day. Small shifts have a way of becoming significant ones when we repeat them often enough.
Something to sit with: What small change could make your everyday life feel better?
23 September - Libra season begins
Later in the month, the focus begins to move outward. As the Sun enters Libra, astrology turns our attention towards relationships, reciprocity, communication and the balance between our own needs and those of the people around us.
Symbolised by the scales, Libra is traditionally associated with harmony, partnership and our ability to consider perspectives beyond our own. But balance doesn’t necessarily mean keeping everybody happy. Sometimes a more balanced relationship requires greater honesty. Sometimes connection requires boundaries. And sometimes making room for another person begins with being clear about what we need too.
It makes Libra season an interesting time to notice which relationships feel reciprocal, where communication could be clearer and where we might be compromising simply to avoid discomfort.
Something to sit with: Where could there be more honesty, balance or room for both?
27 September — Full Moon in Aries
September closes beneath a Full Moon in Aries. In astrology, Full Moons are associated with illumination and culmination — a point in the lunar cycle where something may become clearer or harder to ignore.
Aries brings a very different quality to the relationship-focused energy of Libra. As the first sign of the zodiac, Aries is associated with instinct, individuality, courage and the willingness to move before every detail has been figured out. There’s an interesting tension between the two: Libra asks us to consider we, while Aries reminds us not to lose me in the process.
It might be a useful moment to notice where you’ve been waiting for somebody else to agree with you before trusting what you already know, where you’re overthinking something your instinct answered a while ago, or where keeping the peace might actually be keeping you still.
That doesn’t mean a Full Moon needs to trigger some enormous decision. Sometimes recognising something honestly is enough.
Something to sit with: What are you ready to trust yourself on?
Something to notice this September
Perhaps astrology doesn’t have to give us the answers to be interesting. Its value can simply lie in offering another lens through which to look at the questions already unfolding in our lives.
September begins close to home, asking us to pay attention to the small things shaping our days. It then opens into bigger questions about the information and ideas influencing us, before turning towards our relationships and, finally, our ability to trust ourselves within them.
If there’s a thread running through the month, perhaps it’s this: tend to what matters, question what doesn’t, and trust what you know.
Stay curious.
