October in the Stars: A Month to Reconsider

4 min read

With Venus and Mercury retrograde, a New Moon in Libra and a grounding Taurus Full Moon, October invites us to look again before deciding what comes next.

There are months that seem to propel us forward, and then there are months that ask us to look back.

October feels like the latter.

With both Venus and Mercury entering retrograde, much of this month’s astrology turns our attention towards what already exists: the relationships we’re in, the choices we’ve made, the conversations we’ve had and the values quietly shaping our lives.

Rather than seeing this as a month of delays or disruption, perhaps there’s another way to approach it.

What becomes visible when we stop trying to move so quickly?

From relationships and reciprocity to deeper conversations and a return to the body, here are the cosmic moments worth paying attention to this October.

3 October - Venus Retrograde in Scorpio

What do you really value?

Venus begins its retrograde through Scorpio, bringing themes of relationships, desire, intimacy, money and personal values into closer focus.

Retrogrades are often framed as something to fear, but their symbolism is much more reflective: an opportunity to revisit rather than immediately pursue.

And Scorpio isn't particularly interested in keeping things on the surface.

Together, they invite us to notice where our desires may have changed, where relationships feel genuinely reciprocal and whether the things we say we value are reflected in the way we're actually living.

You don't necessarily need to make a decision yet. Start by noticing what feels different.

Something to consider:What feels important to me now that perhaps didn't six months ago?

10 October - New Moon in Libra

Reset the balance.

Libra brings our attention to relationship: how we meet others, how we compromise and how we maintain a sense of ourselves while being connected to someone else.

The New Moon offers a natural point of reflection around these dynamics.

Where have you been meeting someone halfway? Where might you have been doing all the travelling?

Balance doesn't necessarily mean everything is perfectly equal. But it can mean becoming more aware of where we're continually over-giving, avoiding difficult conversations or agreeing to things simply to keep the peace.

This New Moon can be a quiet opportunity to consider what healthier reciprocity might look like.

Something to consider:Where in my life could there be more room for both myself and the other person?

23 October - Scorpio Season Begins

Go beneath the surface.

As the Sun moves into Scorpio, the tone of the month deepens.

Scorpio is associated with what exists beneath appearances: intimacy, vulnerability, power, transformation and the parts of ourselves we don't always readily show.

It's an interesting counterpoint to a culture that encourages us to constantly present, explain and package ourselves.

Not everything needs to be immediately shared or understood.

Over the coming weeks, you might find yourself drawn towards deeper conversations, more meaningful connections or simply spending a little more time with your own thoughts.

Something to consider:What have I been skimming over that might deserve a closer look?

24 October — Mercury Retrograde in Scorpio

Revisit before you react.

Just one day into Scorpio season, Mercury begins its retrograde.

Mercury is associated with communication, information, thinking and the way we make sense of our experiences. During its retrograde periods, astrology traditionally encourages revision, reconsideration and returning to conversations or ideas that aren't quite finished.

In Scorpio, those conversations may carry a little more depth.

Before assuming you know what someone meant, ask.

Before sending the response immediately, reread it.

Before deciding you've completely understood a situation, consider what information might still be missing.

Sometimes clarity comes not from thinking harder, but from being willing to look again.

Something to consider:Is there something I'm assuming that I could instead get curious about?

26 October - Full Moon in Taurus

Come back to what grounds you.

After a month filled with questioning and introspection, the Taurus Full Moon brings us somewhere much simpler: back into the body.

Taurus is associated with the physical and tangible - food, nature, rest, pleasure, security and the things that help us feel rooted in everyday life. And perhaps that's exactly what's needed.

Not every realisation requires immediate action. Sometimes the most supportive thing we can do is step away from the analysis and return to what is directly in front of us.

Cook something slowly. Walk without headphones. Put your hands in the garden. Sit outside. Rest.

Let the body have a say, too.

Something to consider:What helps me feel steady when everything else feels noisy?

For October

October doesn't need to be a month of having everything figured out.

If anything, its astrology offers permission to stay with the questions for a little longer.

To reconsider what matters. To notice what no longer fits.To communicate with a little more care. And to return to the things that make us feel grounded when our minds become busy trying to find an answer.

Tend to what matters. Question what doesn't. Trust what you know.

This guide explores astrology as a tool for reflection rather than prediction. Take what resonates and leave what doesn't.
